The King of Qawali-Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was born on October 13th, in Faisalabad Pakistan. He inherited the 66 year old tradition of Qawali from his forefather and carried on with it, till his last breath.
He was known as the “Shehansha of Qawali” or the King of Qawali preferably.
At the age of 16 in 1966 NFAK performed his first public gig. And by the 1970’s he had already earned a name for himself. He was a diverse artist. He was not just bounded by qawali but also explored other fields of music. His collaborations with Peter Gabriel and Eddie Vedder produced a dynamic piece of artwork showcasing the fusion of electric guitar and table.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan will always remain in our hearts. He has opened the ears of the world through his hypnotic Sufiana kalams and table rhythms. He toured in more than 40 countries, spreading his music.
This great talent left us at a young age on August 16th,1997.
